A Blessing in Disguise

Who would have thought that the resignation of a member of Coca Cola's Board of Directors, who had served on the board for over 20 years, could be a positive move for the company.  At he end of this year, Cathleen Black will resign from Coke's Board of Directors to serve as New York City's School Chancellor.  While at Coke, Cathleen Black has long fought against the movement to ban surgery drinks in public schools.  Cathleen Black's appointment should help in their battle against removing sugary drinks from schools.

  1. I don't know if this career move was something that Cathleen had been wanting to do for a while or not, but I do know that there are companies who are trying to "get rid" of some of their senior employees in order to hire younger, more technologically savvy counterparts. I know at my job I hear management saying how the corporate office is offering severance packages to people who have been at the company for 20 years or more. This is their way of bringing in people with new ideas and also may be able to get by with paying them a little less because of the lack of experience. I think companies have to be careful with this strategy because inexperience could cause as much damage to the company as having a high payroll.

  2. I agree with you Dianndria. Just because the company could be saving money by hiring less experienced employees could mean it could cause other potential problems.
